It seems like there's something on the USB that's causing the Acer to at least partially go to sleep before it fully boots. I have not yet tried holding the power button to shut the thing down. It's still running now, with the screen on, but nothing else can happen since the USB stick is removed. The CloudReady screen stayed on throughout all of this. Then, finally, while in the sleep mode, I unplugged the USB stick, pressed the power button, which went from red to green, and the Acer came on and stayed on. Pressing the power button causes the Acer to turn back fully on and the USB light to resume flashing for about 20 seconds, then partial sleep mode occurs again. In other words, this partial sleep mode occurs but the screen is still on. but this time, the screen stayed on with the CloudReady logo. the power button went from green to pulsing red. The CloudReady splash screen showed up and remained up, but after 2-3 minutes, the light on the USB stopped flashing and the Acer went into what I'd call partial sleep mode. I heard that if you removed this jumper the machine would restore to its default boot order, so I left the jumper in and put everything back.I created an installer on a new Lexar 16GB USB. Using the H340 service manual as a reference, I attached a spare jumper to JP3 and changed the boot order in the BIOS.
I attached my VGA debugging cable and determined that the machine appeared to be having issues with the boot order. However, after upgrading Debian to the latest kernel, the machine failed to boot. I replaced the hard drive, rebuilt the RAID5 array, and everything seemed fine. indicated that hard drive which originally came with the machine was failing, so I replaced it with a spare I had on-hand.
